Onki
Onki is a New York-based startup that makes AI-powered autonomous mobile robots for in-store retail promotion and shopper engagement.
Onki is a New York City-based robotics company founded in 2021 by former Amazon engineers. The company develops AI-powered autonomous robots aimed at transforming in-person retail promotion and the in-store shopping experience. Onki's core products are two autonomous mobile platforms: AICap and RoboCap.
AICap is a shelf-mounted autonomous promotional device that uses computer vision and AI to detect and engage shoppers as they pass. It provides interactive voice and touchscreen interfaces, delivers brand promotions, answers product questions, and collects non-personal engagement data such as foot traffic counts, interaction duration, and demographic trends. AICap is designed to function as a 24/7 AI-driven in-store sales assistant and brand ambassador.
RoboCap is a free-roaming autonomous mobile robot that moves through retail spaces, malls, and events. It autonomously navigates store environments to distribute product samples, deliver promotional information, and engage customers directly. RoboCap is built for experiential marketing campaigns that require mobility and interactive customer touchpoints.
Both platforms leverage onboard AI and computer vision to perceive their environments, identify shoppers, and initiate contextually appropriate interactions without requiring human operators. The data gathered is aggregated and anonymized, then delivered to retail partners and brands to help refine promotional strategies and optimize future campaigns.
Onki was in a limited pilot phase as of 2024, beginning to onboard its first retail and brand customers. The company employs approximately 11 to 20 people. No external funding rounds have been publicly disclosed.
