Niryo is a French robotics company founded in 2016 at the ISEN engineering school in Lille by Marc-Henri Frouin and Edouard Renard. Initially a student project, the venture became a commercial enterprise in 2017 with the launch of Niryo One, the company's first 6-axis collaborative robot arm designed for educational use.
Niryo designs and manufactures affordable desktop collaborative robot arms targeted at universities, engineering schools, R&D centers, and industrial training environments. The company's robots are built to be accessible, programmable, and compatible with common educational and engineering software stacks including ROS (Robot Operating System) and Python.
The product lineup has evolved through three generations. The original Niryo One was succeeded by the Ned (Niryo for Education), which was superseded by the Ned2 in 2022. The Ned2 is a 6-axis cobot arm with a maximum payload of 300 g, a reach of 490 mm, and a repeatability of 0.5 mm. It runs on a Raspberry Pi 4 processor with Ubuntu 18.04 and ROS Melodic. The structural frame is aluminum with injection-molded plastic covers, and it incorporates servo motors with Silent Stepper Technology for reduced noise. In 2024, Niryo launched the Ned3 Pro, a collaborative robot arm targeting professional and light industrial applications.
Niryo has established a distribution and user network in more than 70 countries, with particular strength in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Enterprise customers using Niryo cobots include Airbus, Deutsche Bahn, Siemens, Solvay, Coca-Cola, and Texas Instruments.
In October 2023, Niryo raised a Series A funding round of 10 million euros to accelerate its entry into the industrial market and expand its product range beyond the education segment. The company's headquarters is located in the Lille metropolitan area in northern France, with one address cited as 165 Avenue de Bretagne, Lille 59000.
