Newtec A/S, founded in 1976 by Gunnar and Inge Petersen and headquartered in Odense, Denmark, is a privately owned family manufacturer of precision weighing, packaging, and optical sorting machines for the fresh produce industry. Its machinery handles potatoes, carrots, onions, and other vegetables and fruit at speeds up to 140 portions per minute. In 1997, Newtec built the first AI-based grading machine for potatoes.
The company founded subsidiary Qtechnology in 2007 to develop in-house industrial cameras and hyperspectral vision systems for produce grading. A related entity, Newtec Engineering A/S, specialises in optical sorting. Together, the Newtec companies have completed more than 25,000 installations across more than 50 countries.
