Koganei, Tokyo agritech firm founded 2019 behind Aigamo Robot, an autonomous paddy weed-suppression robot with about 4,000 units installed in Japan.
NEWGREEN Inc. is a Japanese agritech company founded in November 2019 that develops, manufactures and sells Aigamo Robot (Aigamo Robo), an autonomous weed-suppression robot for rice paddies. Alongside the robot, the company develops farm inputs made from unused resources and produces and distributes organic rice and other low-environmental-impact crops; it presents its overall offer as an agriculture platform combining science, digital tools and on-site support for farmers.
Aigamo Robot moves through flooded paddies without fossil fuel, herbicides or manual labour, stirring the water to suppress weed growth. Company press materials report roughly 10% higher yields, about 60% less weeding labour, reduced damage from golden apple snails and lower methane emissions in user fields. A lighter, lower-cost model, IGAM2, was released in March 2025, aimed at narrow and irregularly shaped paddies in hilly areas. NEWGREEN reports about 4,000 units installed cumulatively in Japan and says the 1,000 units built in 2025 sold out. The robot is listed in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) Midori Food System Strategy technology catalogue and won the MAFF Minister's Award at the 11th Robot Award.
The technology traces back to research at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. NEWGREEN is a member of the Smart Agriculture Aigamo Robot Consortium led by the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), with Iseki & Co., BASF Japan, JA Mitsui Leasing and prefectural research stations in Niigata, Nagano and Shimane; the 2025-2027 project, commissioned by BRAIN, covers brush improvements for different soils and integration with automatic water management and crop management systems. Overseas trials have run in Vietnam, China, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia. In Vietnam the company has worked with Loc Troi since April 2024 and signed a three-party MOU with Loc Troi and the National Agricultural Extension Center in March 2026 covering field trials, extension manuals and methane-reduction certification.
NEWGREEN closed a Series B round in November 2024 with investors including the PROSPER Japan Corporate Growth Support Fund No. 1, JA Mitsui Leasing, Yamatane and the TUAT No. 1 fund (BP Capital); its stated capital is JPY 2,577,070,000. Press releases list the head office at the Nodai Tama-Koganei Venture Port in Koganei, Tokyo, with Daisuke Yamanaka as CEO and Daiki Nakajo as COO.
