MTL Precision designs non-contact optical dimensional-inspection systems and robotic automation cells for aerospace, automotive, and industrial manufacturers. The company began in 1998 as Metroptic, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway's ISCAR IMC Group, divested from ISCAR in 2005, then renamed itself MTL 3D in 2019 and MTL Precision in 2025. It operates a North American headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas and a global headquarters in Migdal Tefen, Israel, under Global CEO Dmitry Surov and founder/CTO Vladimir Karpovsky.
MTL Precision's inspection platforms measure parts without contact, replacing coordinate measuring machines for many jobs, with repeatability to 0.0003 inches and pass/fail analytics generated without CMM programming or a dedicated metrology lab; the company states its systems cut cycle time by up to 73 percent and run roughly ten times faster than CMM-based measurement. Its Blazer Series inspection line, launched in 2010, scales from small parts to large, complex components, and in 2023 the company built a robotic automation cell that combines blade manufacturing with inspection in one workflow. The company also supplies automated grinding and polishing systems.
MTL Precision is ITAR registered and lists aerospace customers including Pratt & Whitney, GE Aerospace, Honeywell, and MTU Aero Engines among the manufacturers using its inspection technology.
