Mikron Automation is the assembly and test systems business of the Mikron Group, whose holding company, Mikron Holding AG, is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange under the ticker MIKN. The business is based in Boudry, in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel, where Mikron has manufactured since 1918, and has further sites in Denver in the United States, Singapore, Shanghai in China and Kaunas in Lithuania. It employs more than 1,000 people and reports over 4,500 assembly and test systems in use worldwide. In 2025 the Automation segment recorded net sales of CHF 250.1 million, up 7.2 per cent, and was the larger of the group's two segments; order intake fell 12.4 per cent to CHF 232.2 million and the order backlog stood at CHF 212.8 million at year end. Group net sales were CHF 381.9 million with a workforce of about 1,570.
The company designs and builds customer-specific machines that assemble and test small, high-precision products in volume. Its largest market is pharmaceutical and medical devices, and within that the drug-delivery devices where it has concentrated its expertise: auto-injectors, pen injectors, safety syringes and inhalers. It also builds lines for automotive, electrical and industrial components, and consumer goods.
The offering is organised as a scalable set of platforms so that a customer can move from clinical supply to commercial production without changing supplier or re-validating from scratch. At the smallest end, MAIA is a lab-scale assembly machine for pen injectors, auto-injectors and safety syringes, running at up to four cycles per minute on a footprint of about two square metres, intended for clinical studies and small commercial quantities. Manual benches and robotic cells cover the step up to medium volumes. G05 is the core platform for medium and high volumes: a linear, indexing assembly system built from standardised modules, available in semi-automatic and fully automatic configurations, running at up to 100 cycles per minute with indexing repeatability of plus or minus 0.01 millimetres and assembly precision of plus or minus 0.02 millimetres. Several G05 cells can be linked, and manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic cells can be combined in the same line, which lets a customer add capacity in stages rather than commissioning a full high-volume line up front.
Because most of this equipment ends up in regulated pharmaceutical production, the platforms are built for it. G05 is rated for ISO class 7 cleanrooms, supports GAMP 5 validation, and its control systems comply with 21 CFR Part 11 on electronic records. Around the machines the company sells a lifecycle service programme covering pre-production support, spare parts, upgrades, digital and remote-monitoring services, and on-site customer support.
For a robotics directory, Mikron Automation belongs with the builders of high-speed automated assembly equipment rather than with robot arm makers. Robots appear inside its robotic cells, but most of its throughput comes from purpose-built indexing and transfer mechanics engineered around a specific device, which is where the speed and precision figures above come from.
