"OUTPERFORMING THE THREATS OF TOMORROW. TODAY."
London-based maker of the NiDAR AI counter-drone command-and-control platform and INTERCEPTOR-MR/SR autonomous drone interceptors; an EOS company since 2026.
MARSS is a defence technology company specialising in AI-enabled command and control (C2) for counter-UAS, force protection, critical infrastructure security and border surveillance. Johannes Pinl, its founder and CEO, says the company grew from a university project: a 2005 concept for an autonomous vessel docking system. MARSS gives 2006 as its founding year. It describes the MARSS Group as based in London, Riyadh and Monaco. Its current contact page lists offices at 14 Curzon Street in London, in Bristol, in Nice (an engineering and AI base expanded in 2026) and in Riyadh. The company reports more than 120 employees and more than 60 NiDAR deployments worldwide. Its operating company in British government contracts is MARSS Systems Limited.
The NiDAR family is built on NiDAR Core, an open, modular AI layer that is agnostic to sensors and effectors. It fuses radar, electro-optical, ADS-B and RF-monitoring data with intelligence databases. It classifies and analyses threat behaviour with machine learning, tracks more than 1,000 objects at once and hands targets between cameras automatically. It then coordinates kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures. NiDAR CUAS is the multi-layer counter-drone product, marketed against threats from micro drones up to CAT III, with detection and defeat beyond 25 km. NiDAR Command and NiDAR 4D extend the C2 to multi-domain threats on land, at sea and underwater. Deployable hardware includes NiDAR X-COMPACT, a detection and tracking unit for drones and surface targets; NiDAR X, networked vehicles for C2 on the move; NiDAR X-JOC, a surface-mounted command station with long-range detection and countermeasures; NiDAR X-SCOUT, an uncrewed sensor drop-off unit; and NiDAR X-TERRA, a mobile C2 unit for remote surveillance.
MARSS also builds uncrewed interceptors. INTERCEPTOR-MR is a hybrid fixed-wing and quadcopter airframe with custom electric ducted propulsion. It flies at more than 80 m/s and up to 2 km altitude, launches automatically and vertically from a smart launcher connected to NiDAR, and closes on targets using onboard AI imaging. MARSS says it can defeat Class I and II drones head-on at 5 km or more. In September 2025 it completed flight testing of design upgrades ahead of a NATO member evaluation. INTERCEPTOR-SR is a compact interceptor for mounted and dismounted troops, with a titanium nose cone and wings, top speed of 216 km/h and no explosives or jet fuel. It engages Class 1 drones at 1 km or more and complies with the UK MoD SAPIENT interoperability standard.
Most MARSS customers are in the Gulf and Africa. The company reports more than 60 NiDAR sites at Middle East critical infrastructure. It is a core part of DAMITA, which it describes as the UAE's first fully integrated counter-drone and air defence system. It signed an MoU with Nigeria's Ministry of Defence valued at over USD 190 million in March 2026. It also secured UK Export Finance support for a surveillance programme in an African country. In June 2026 BAE Systems selected NiDAR as the C2 hub for its BATS (Anti Threat System) counter-UAS capability and its other counter-UAS programmes. In October 2026 MARSS signed a GBP 370 million contract to supply and integrate jammers, radars and interceptors, all networked through NiDAR, for nationwide counter-drone defence of Kuwait. The contract runs through 2027, will be produced in Bristol, and the UK MoD says it will create 100 British jobs.
Electro Optic Systems (ASX: EOS) of Australia agreed in January 2026 to buy the MARSS defence business, and closed the deal in May 2026. MARSS now trades as "MARSS, an EOS company", with Pinl and his management team still in place, and its NiDAR C2 is being combined with EOS's kinetic and laser weapon systems.
