The company built its initial business creating life-size movable dinosaur robots for museums and theme parks. Kokoro is recognized in robotics research for developing the Actroid, a series of lifelike android robots with silicone skin and pneumatic actuators capable of realistic facial expressions, first unveiled at the 2003 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo. The Actroid platform served as a research and entertainment robot, and Kokoro collaborated with Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratory at Osaka University on the Geminoid series of teleoperated android robots replicating specific human individuals.
