Klein Marine Systems is a manufacturer of side-scan sonar systems and unmanned underwater vehicles headquartered at 65 Parker Street, Suite 5, Newburyport, Massachusetts. Founded in 1969, the company operates today as part of General Oceans, a marine-technology group whose parent, General Oceans ASA, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in March 2026.
Klein's product line includes the System 5900, an ultra-high-resolution towed side-scan sonar with integrated gap-filler imaging and bathymetry; the UUV System 3500, a dual-frequency side-scan sonar payload built for integration onto autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles from other manufacturers; and the MANTIS UUV, which combines Klein's SmartArray sonar technology with the company's own autonomous underwater vehicle body. These systems are used for seafloor mapping, wreck and object search-and-recovery, harbor and port security, hydrographic survey, offshore site investigation, and naval mine-countermeasure missions.
As of mid-2026 Klein is a named partner in a mine-countermeasure technology alliance led by Spry Technocon for the Indian Navy. The company achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification in July 2026 and provides sales, technical support and training services to hydrographic, defense and offshore-energy customers operating its equipment worldwide.
