Company Overview

Kinematics GmbH, based in Bernau bei Berlin, Germany, is the company behind the TinkerBots brand of modular robotics construction kits for children aged six and older. Founded in October 2013, with roots in research at Bauhaus University Weimar dating to around 2009, the company produces the TinkerBots Powerbrain — a programmable central control module — and a range of interchangeable motion modules including motors, pivot joints, and sensor blocks, all compatible with standard LEGO bricks. Kinematics raised approximately 300,000 dollars through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in 2014 and received backing from SevenVentures.

The product is marketed as a hands-on STEM and robotics learning tool for primary school-aged children.
