Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is Israel's largest government-owned aerospace and defense company, founded in 1953 (originally as Bedek Aviation) and headquartered near Ben Gurion International Airport in Lod, Israel. The company designs, develops, and manufactures advanced systems across air, land, naval, space, and spectrum (cyber and electronic-warfare) domains, organized into the ELTA Group, Aviation Group, Military Aircraft Group, and Systems, Missiles & Space Group. IAI is recognized as Israel's National Space House and National Radar House, and is one of a small number of companies globally with full aircraft development and licensing capabilities and complete space capabilities. Its unmanned solutions span air, land, and naval domains, including the combat-proven Heron family of strategic and tactical UAVs and the Harop and Harpy loitering munitions, alongside the BlueWhale autonomous submarine and unmanned surface and ground systems. Air and missile defense offerings include the Arrow 3 exo-atmospheric interceptor, Green Pine radar, and Barak family of air defense systems.
The company also provides intelligence and surveillance systems, AESA naval radars, special mission aircraft, command and control, electro-optics, and resilient navigation. Its Aviation Group is a world leader in passenger-to-freighter aircraft conversions, having converted over 300 aircraft with certified STCs, and provides MRO services, aerostructures, and business jet support. IAI reported a 2025 backlog of approximately 29 billion US dollars, with engineers comprising about half of its workforce.
The company operates globally and maintains an Innovation Center that partners with startups to commercialize defense technologies for civilian markets.
