InterSense is a precision inertial motion tracking brand operated by Thales Visionix, a division of Thales Defense & Security, Inc., located in Billerica, Massachusetts. InterSense was founded in 1996 by Eric Foxlin as a commercial spin-off of his doctoral research at MIT, initially developing MEMS-based inertial measurement units for virtual reality. The company was acquired by Gentex Corporation in 2011, and subsequently acquired by Thales Defense & Security along with Visionix in 2012.
Core products include the IS-1200+ HObIT, a hybrid optical-inertial 6-DOF tracker for augmented and virtual reality and simulation training; the IS-900, a hybrid ultrasonic-inertial 6-DOF tracker; and the InertiaCube4 3-DOF sensor.
