"Leading Australia into the Drone Age"
Perth aerospace OEM founded 2006 that builds the OWL-B and OWL-X loitering munitions; listed on ASX in September 2026 after an A$40M IPO.
Innovaero is an aerospace and defence original equipment manufacturer based in Perth, Western Australia, whose main business is now autonomous one-way strike drones. Its offices are at 20 Weatherburn Way, Kardinya, and proceeds from its 2026 initial public offering are earmarked for a new headquarters, research and development and manufacturing facility at Jandakot. The company traces its history to 2006, when it began in aeronautical product development; founder Mike von Bertouch, an aerospace and mechanical engineer, previously helped launch Nearmap's airborne imaging technology and co-founded Spookfish. Gregory Tunny, a former chief executive of ASC, has been chief executive since December 2025, and former Lockheed Martin Australia chief executive Vince Di Pietro chairs the board.
The OWL family is the core product line. OWL-B is an electric loitering munition for medium-range strike with a demonstrated range of up to 200 km. Development began in 2022 with the Australian Defence Force; it is compatible with launchers already in ADF service, has completed multiple live-fire trials, can fly a predefined mission autonomously with in-flight re-tasking, and is being tested and certified under a contract from the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) within Mission 6, Talon Strike. Canister launch is planned for 2027, the year targeted for entry into service. OWL-X is a canister-launched, turbojet-powered one-way effector for ground and maritime strike and counter-drone interception; 2025 prototype flights under an arrangement with the Department of Defence exceeded 20,000 ft and 400 knots. OWL-C is a larger long-range turbojet design at preliminary design study stage.
Earlier uncrewed platforms include the FOX VTOL tactical and maritime UAS (around 250 kg MTOW, 2020, paused to prioritise OWL-B), the SuperFOX design study of a roughly 2,000 kg uncrewed aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force (2022), and STRIX, a roughly 900 kg hybrid VTOL tandem-wing UAS built under contract to BAE Systems Australia, where Innovaero designed, manufactured and structurally tested the airframe and flew it within two years of starting design.
Innovaero holds in-house CASA approvals across the aircraft lifecycle: a CASR Subpart 21J Approved Design Organisation, a Subpart 21G Production Certificate and Subpart 21K parts manufacturing authority, a Part 145 maintenance organisation for airline and general aviation, and Part 101 approval for uncrewed operations, together with AS9100D quality certification. It exports approved aeronautical parts for US-registered aircraft, and its subsidiary Aviation Composites provides composite repair and manufacturing. The company listed on the ASX under the code INN on 22 September 2026 after a fully subscribed A$40 million IPO of 80 million shares at A$0.50, giving an indicative market capitalisation of A$158.3 million.
