in-situ GmbH vision & sensor systems is a specialist in automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems founded in 2001 in Sauerlach near Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The company was established by Prof. Dr. Hartmut Ernst as a spin-off of vidisys GmbH—itself active in industrial image processing since 1987—when the digital image processing business unit was spun into a dedicated profit center. in-situ's core competency is digital image processing with industrial, medical, and scientific applications, focusing particularly on 2D and 3D metrology. The company designs and delivers complete turnkey AOI systems as well as individual components, drawing on its own software developments and hardware from established partners including Cognex, MESA, Stemmer Imaging, and vidisys.
Documented inspection applications include Braille code verification (pharmaceutical packaging), brake pad inspection, stamped-part geometry checking, tray content inspection, display optical testing, pin inspection, screw cap verification, barcode and OCR reading, surface area inspection, 2D shape measurement, position and location detection, 3D measurement, type verification, and completeness checking. The company also offers AI-based vision solutions for more complex classification tasks. Target industries include automotive, pharmaceutical, packaging, electronics, food, mechanical engineering, and metalworking.
