Tianjin Hanhai Lanfan Ocean Technology Co., Ltd. (Hanhai Lanfan) is a Chinese developer and manufacturer of modular underwater robots and underwater propulsion components, based in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) in Binhai New Area. The company was registered on 22 May 2017 with registered capital of RMB 38.888 million. It grew out of the "Lanfan intelligent marine equipment R&D team", a group of faculty and students from Hebei University of Technology and Tianjin University of Science and Technology, and has been located at the TEDA unmanned intelligent equipment industrial park.
The company is led by Wu Jianguo, its founder, general manager and legal representative. Wu is a researcher and master's supervisor at Hebei University of Technology and was named a Binhai New Area innovation and entrepreneurship leading talent. Before founding Hanhai Lanfan he worked at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he led three research projects and was responsible for the vehicle of the Qianlong-1 deep-sea AUV under China's 12th Five-Year Plan. Hanhai Lanfan holds national high-tech enterprise status and Tianjin "specialized and sophisticated" and "gazelle" enterprise designations.
Hanhai Lanfan's main line is its "Fan" series of modular autonomous underwater vehicles. Its modular approach divides each vehicle into detachable, neutrally buoyant sections with common interfaces, so payload, power and propulsion modules can be recombined or customized. The largest published model, the Jinfan (JF) large modular AUV, has a 533.4 mm (21-inch) diameter, a length of 3,640 mm and a weight of 670 kg. It is rated to 300 m (customizable), cruises at 4 knots with an 11-knot maximum speed and has a 16-hour endurance. Heading accuracy is plus or minus 0.4 degrees and depth-holding accuracy is plus or minus 0.2 m. Standard functions include video and temperature capture, path planning, surface remote control and satellite communication, with buoyancy adjustment, towing and underwater remote control as reserved options. The company positions the JF mainly as a platform for underwater sonar validation, carrying sonar payloads, towed arrays, multibeam sonar or communication-relay equipment. A smaller Zhifan (ZF) micro modular AUV is also listed. At trade shows in 2018 the company showed AUVs in roughly 20 kg and 40 kg classes, rated to 100 m and 200 m respectively, alongside the 21-inch vehicle.
The company also builds small remotely operated vehicles for inspection and cleaning, including underwater cleaning robots for ship hulls and dams, and markets underwater robots for offshore wind farm operation and maintenance. A second business is core components. These include a series of deep-sea underwater thrusters that use oil-filled pressure-compensated sealing, underwater steering gear (actuators), pan-tilt units, pressure compensators, underwater acoustic systems and general-purpose controllers. Industry press reported in 2020 that its thrusters were in use at several research institutes, universities and companies. Hanhai Lanfan also offers CFD hydrodynamic analysis and optimization and custom R&D for non-standard underwater vehicles. Early collaborators named in 2018 coverage include the Institute of Acoustics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shenyang Institute of Automation and Tianjin University.
Hanhai Lanfan exhibited at the 2024 China Marine Economy Expo and at Oceanology Asia 2025 (booth E05), where its listed products were AUVs, ROVs, thrusters, steering gear, pan-tilt units and compensators. A 36Kr company listing shows no disclosed external funding.
