Company Overview

General Autonomy Private Limited is a Bengaluru robotics start-up that develops legged robots: the Param quadruped and the Atom humanoid. The company was incorporated in May 2023 by Farid Ahsan, formerly chief operating officer of the Indian social-media company ShareChat, and Bhanu Pratap Singh, formerly ShareChat's chief technology officer. Both are IIT Kanpur alumni and left ShareChat in January 2023. Ahsan has said the long-term aim is to change how factories work through more agile, distributed mass manufacturing built on general-purpose robots. The company describes its products as autonomous robots for the real world, with two platforms meant to work across different terrain.

Param is a four-legged robot built for inspection and payload delivery over rough ground, including climbing stairs and crossing uneven terrain for inspection, monitoring and mobility tasks. General Autonomy's website lists it at 0.60 m tall, with 12 degrees of freedom, a weight of 50 kg and a 25 kg payload. Press coverage describes Param as the first quadruped designed and built almost entirely in India: apart from the NVIDIA processor and a few specialised actuators, the components are developed or sourced locally. Param was one of ten deep-tech start-ups selected by Startup India to exhibit at National Startup Day 2026, where it was shown to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and it was exhibited at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Atom is a general-purpose humanoid intended for spaces built for people, where it has to handle doors, stairs, tools and shelves. The official specification lists 1.55 m height, 23 degrees of freedom, 60 kg weight and a 10 kg payload. The company has called an earlier version, Atom 01, India's first life-sized walking humanoid. According to the company it was built in about four months at its Bengaluru lab, mostly from custom-machined parts, aluminium and carbon profiles, and it was priced below INR 2 million (about USD 24,000). General Autonomy positions Atom as a developer platform with whole-body control on which other teams can build applications.

General Autonomy raised a pre-seed round of about INR 250 million (around USD 3 million) in November 2023, led by India Quotient and Elevation Capital. Angel investors included Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Ramakant Sharma and ShareChat co-founder Ankush Sachdeva. A seed round of about INR 320 million followed in early 2026, again led by Elevation Capital and India Quotient, with Blue Asva Varenya Fund, FBC Venture Partners, Spearhead Capital and Ishendra Agarwal participating. Reported total funding is a little under USD 6.5 million. In 2026 the company had about 19 employees and was still pre-revenue and focused on R&D. In the Indian robotics landscape it is grouped with Addverb, CynLr, Perceptyne and other developers building their own robots.
