Company Overview

FullDepth Co., Ltd. is a Tokyo company that designs, builds and sells industrial underwater drones (ROVs) under the DiveUnit name and uses them for its own underwater inspection and survey work. It was founded on June 4, 2014 under a previous name, began planning a deep-sea business in 2015, and changed its name to FullDepth in March 2018. Its head office is in Higashi-Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, where an in-house pool is used for operator training and demonstrations. FullDepth stresses domestic Japanese development and production, along with nationwide after-sales maintenance.

FullDepth raised seed money from two Japanese venture capital firms in 2016 to build its first prototypes, completed a Series A in June 2017 to launch an underwater drone service, and raised about JPY 340 million through a third-party allotment in April 2019. Furuno Electric invested in August 2022. In December 2025 the company closed a JPY 950 million Series D, including venture debt, with investors such as Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Capital, Aozora Investment, Beyond Next Ventures, DRONE FUND, Zenrin Future Partners and JMTC Capital. Outside directors from DRONE FUND and Beyond Next Ventures sit on its board. Outside directors from DRONE FUND and Beyond Next Ventures sit on its board.

The first commercial vehicle, DiveUnit300, went on sale in October 2019 and was registered in September 2020 in NETIS, the new-technology database run by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). The current lineup has three ROVs. The entry-level DiveUnit 300Lite is rated to 300 m, weighs about 29 kg with battery and has seven thrusters, Full HD video, four 1,500-lumen lights, up to 4 hours of operation and a top speed of 1.0 knot (1.3 knots optional); its 3.7 mm optical tether has a 136 kg breaking strength, comes in 100 m or 300 m lengths and can be extended to 1,500 m, and heading, pitch and depth hold come from an AHRS and a depth sensor. DiveUnit HAYATE is a 15 kg single-person ROV with six thrusters and a top speed of 3 knots, rated to 50 m (100 m optional), with up to 4 hours of operation and a 100 m cable extendable to 1,500 m. DiveUnit KAI is a 40 kg, eight-thruster vehicle rated to 300 m that reaches 2 knots, carries 1.5 times the payload of earlier models and can be deployed by two people without a crane.

FullDepth sells application kits for dams, offshore wind, pipelines, ship hulls, bridges, cleaning, exploration, wall-thickness measurement and water sampling. Options include multibeam imaging sonar, a 360-degree camera, a USBL acoustic positioning system, line lasers and scale units for crack measurement, a metal detector, an ultrasonic thickness gauge, a gripper, a water sampler, a high-pressure washer, a tracer unit and a real-time image-sharpening device. The company also offers custom payload development and the FullDepth Bridge cloud service for sharing data.

Customers that do not buy a vehicle can use FullDepth's inspection service. Certified operators carry out scour surveys with imaging sonar, build acoustic seabed maps overlaid on satellite imagery, sharpen video in turbid water, and measure cracks and defects. Typical sites are ports, bridges, dams, gates and pipelines, power plants and substations, factories, fishing reefs and aquaculture farms. Support includes repair, periodic maintenance, the FullDepth Care program and operator certification training.

FullDepth is moving toward autonomy. In May 2023 its CEO joined the Cabinet Office's public-private platform on autonomous underwater vehicles. In November 2023 MLIT selected the company's project to develop a daily port-structure inspection system based on a small AUV. FullDepth says the Series D proceeds will fund research on autonomous AUV operation and better collection and analysis of underwater data.
