Meerbusch maker of Rukaby, Pacorel and Zurama vegetable hoes; Zurama uses a camera and AI to hoe inside the row, with 1.5 cm crop-row clearance.
Feldklasse GmbH is a German manufacturer of mechanical hoeing machines for vegetable and arable crops, based in Meerbusch, North Rhine-Westphalia. The idea began in 2016, when founder and managing director Andre Dulks set out to help a rocket-salad grower find a suitable hoeing technique. The company was officially founded in 2018 under the name DULKS and adopted the Feldklasse name, website and corporate design in 2021. It expanded sales to France and England in 2020 and into arable farming in 2022. Feldklasse has about 10 employees in development, sales, marketing and service, reports more than 200 customers, sells across the EU, Switzerland and the UK, and produces only in Germany. It holds two patents, one brand, three utility models and three registered designs, and lists TH Koln and Rentenbank among its partners.
The machines use rotating serrated discs to loosen the soil and rotating blades, turning at twice the disc speed, to lift weeds, working as close as 1.5 cm to the crop row. The modular system is built with 2, 3, 4, 6 or 8 ridges or units, for rear or mid mounting, with mechanical, hydraulic or fully automatic steering, and can be supplied with or without a camera system. Rukaby is designed for bed cultivation from 5 cm row spacing in crops such as baby leaf, lamb's lettuce, rocket, carrot, onion and spinach. Pacorel is designed for ridge cultivation and hoes between double and triple rows of carrot, onion, parsnip and chicory. Zurama, the field model, uses a camera system and artificial intelligence to weed within the row, and the company claims it can treat up to 95% of the total area in sugar beet, cabbage, head lettuce and corn; its camera can tell lettuce types such as endive and lollo apart. Zurama was demonstrated on tours in France, Switzerland and Germany, and the company exhibited at Agritechnica 2023.
