Farmertronics Engineering BV
"a fossil fuel free agtech company"
Dutch agtech developer working since 2012 on the eTrac, an unmanned battery-electric robot tractor intended to replace manned diesel tractors.
Farmertronics Engineering BV is a small agricultural technology company based in Deurne, in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It was founded in May 2012 by Thieu Berkers, an engineer and entrepreneur who grew up on a Dutch farm and serves as managing director. The company describes itself as a fossil fuel free agtech company and is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under KvK number 61395013.
Its core project is the eTrac, an unmanned, battery-electric robot tractor designed to work the land without diesel. The concept is that electricity is generated and temporarily stored on the farm and used to power a lighter tractor, addressing two problems the company attributes to modern diesel tractors: heavy machines that compact and damage the soil, and dependence on fossil fuel. The company's long-term aim is to replace manned tractors with unmanned electric machines. Farmertronics groups its technology work into four areas: precision farming, renewable energy and energy reuse, crop management, and the management and monitoring of manned and unmanned tractor fleets.
The eTrac has been developed in stages. A feasibility study was partly funded by the Dutch MIT-Zuid innovation programme, with the grant awarded on 10 July 2017, and the company launched a crowdfunding campaign on 3 October 2017. Product pages dated 2019 described a planned first full-electric demonstration model. In February 2023 Farmertronics announced a subsidy from the Groen Economisch Herstelfonds (Green Economic Recovery Fund), and in June 2024 it demonstrated its technology at the Noord-Hollandse Fruitteeltdag, a fruit-growing event in the Netherlands. No commercial availability has been announced, and the eTrac remains in development.
