Electron Energy Corporation (EEC) is a US-based world leader in the design and manufacture of rare earth permanent magnets and magnet assemblies for demanding applications. Founded in 1970 by Marlin S. Walmer in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, EEC is headquartered in Landisville, PA, and operates two facilities totalling approximately 84,800 square feet of manufacturing and office space. The company is part of the Permag group and a sister company to Dexter Magnetic Technologies.

EEC is the only remaining US producer of Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets — a distinction of critical importance to domestic defence supply chains. Its product portfolio covers Samarium Cobalt (SmCo5 and Sm2Co17) including specialty grades such as ultra-high temperature SmCo (stable beyond 300°C) and temperature-compensated SmCo; Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB); Alnico; and ceramic sintered permanent magnets. Beyond raw magnet shapes, EEC manufactures complex magnet assemblies including rotor assemblies, Halbach arrays, circulator and isolator assemblies, magnetic coupling assemblies, magnetic pump assemblies, sensor assemblies, and carbon retention sleeves.

EEC is ITAR compliant, DDTC registered, and DFARS compliant — qualifications mandatory for defence and aerospace prime contractors. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D certifications. Its customers include military and aerospace primes for programmes such as the F-35 (JSF), F/A-18, Patriot missile system, Predator UAV, and US Navy nuclear programmes, as well as medical device OEMs and oil and gas exploration companies.

Relevance to robotics: Permanent magnets — particularly SmCo and NdFeB — are the core functional material in brushless DC motors and servo motors used throughout robotic joints, exoskeletons, AGV drive systems, and drone propulsion. EEC's rotor assembly and EEC Motorsolver capabilities (electric motors, rotors, stators) make it a direct component supplier to robotics motor manufacturers. Its high-temperature and miniature magnet grades are well-suited to compact, high-performance robotic actuators. EEC's role as a sole-source domestic SmCo supplier gives it strategic importance to US-based robotics and defence robotics supply chains.
