Canberra-based ASX-listed maker of remote weapon stations, counter-drone interceptors and lasers, with more than 3,500 weapon systems delivered.
Electro Optic Systems (EOS) is an Australian defence and space technology group headquartered in Symonston, Canberra, listed on the Australian Securities Exchange as Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited (ASX: EOS). The company states it has designed, manufactured and exported space and defence systems for more than 40 years and has built remote weapon systems since the 1990s, with more than 3,500 delivered to militaries in Australia, the Middle East, North America, Europe and Southeast Asia.
Its defence business centres on remotely operated, stabilised weapon stations and a layered counter-drone portfolio. The R-series remote weapon systems (R150, R400, R500, R600, R800) mount cannons, machine guns, grenade launchers or anti-tank missiles on vehicles; the R400 weighs under 400 kg, uses three- or four-axis stabilisation, holds accuracy below one milliradian and engages targets out to 2,000 m. EOS has integrated these stations onto unmanned ground vehicles from Milrem Robotics, Praesidium, IAI, Pratt and Miller and the BIA5 Cyborg Dynamics Engineering partnership: the Royal Netherlands Army deployed five R400 units on THeMIS UGVs in December 2022, Thailand's Defence Technology Institute adopted the R400S Mk2-HD for THeMIS, and the company has fired Javelin missiles remotely from UGVs with the Australian Army.
Counter-drone products form the fastest-growing line. Slinger pairs an M230LF 30 x 113 mm cannon firing proximity-fuzed ammunition with an Echodyne 4D radar and EOS stabilisation, weighs under 400 kg and engages drones beyond 800 m on the move; a next-generation Slinger with selectable autonomy is due to enter production in Huntsville, Alabama in 2027. Interceptor-MR is an explosive-free interceptor drone launched from a vertical smart launcher that uses onboard AI imaging to ram Class I and II drones at more than 80 m/s, up to 5 km away and 2 km altitude. Apollo is a containerised high-energy laser rated at 50-150 kW, claiming more than 20 Group 1 drone kills per minute and hard-kill range out to 3 km; the Netherlands Ministry of Defence signed a letter of intent for it in September 2026. NiDAR, an AI-enabled command-and-control system obtained through the acquisition of UK-based MARSS, fuses radar, electro-optical and sonar inputs for airborne and seaborne drone detection.
In October 2026 EOS announced its largest contract to date, a conditional GBP 370 million (about AUD 700 million) agreement with a Gulf Cooperation Council government for a nation-wide counter-drone system built around NiDAR, with EOS acting as prime contractor and systems integrator. A June 2026 counter-drone order was valued at USD 124 million alongside a Middle East joint venture for laser weapons and remote weapon systems.
The space business supplies 1 m and 2 m optical tracking telescopes, observatory enclosures, satellite laser ranging and space domain awareness services. Subsidiaries include MARSS, EOS Defense Systems USA, EOS Space Systems and the New Zealand precision-optics maker KiwiStar Optics, with further offices in the UAE, Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands and France. The company displays ISO 9001 certification and JOSCAR AU registration.
