E-TERRY GmbH is a German agricultural robotics startup founded in 2022 and based in Erfurt, Thuringia. It is registered at the Jena local court under HRB 519625, with Martha Wenzel, Michael Rieke and Fabian Rosler as managing directors; the three are also co-founders, and Dr. Thomas Gnefkow serves as CEO.
The company develops the E-TERRY, an autonomous AI-controlled field robot designed as an open equipment carrier that can be adapted to different tasks, comparable in concept to a small tractor. The robot weighs 250 kg, which the company says minimizes soil compaction and simplifies handling. It uses a three-wheel layout with adjustable track width and height, folds for transport and storage, and is fully electric, running on lithium-ion batteries in an exchangeable battery system. Navigation combines RTK GPS with computer vision, and camera-based plant and row detection uses deep learning to distinguish crops from weeds. The platform is open for integrating additional sensors and actuators.
The first commercial application is mechanical weed removal in vegetable crops, both in and between rows. E-TERRY markets this through a weeding-as-a-service model, with pre-orders taken for the 2026 season, and claims up to 45% lower weed-control costs and up to 400 fewer hours of manual weeding. Planned future functions include sowing, precise crop protection and fertilizer application, harvesting and transport. The company describes the robot as patented.
E-TERRY closed a first financing round described as seven figures, led by bm|t beteiligungsmanagement thuringen with FutureWork Verwaltungsgesellschaft and private investors. It won the FIRA award for Most Innovative Ag Robotics Startup and has exhibited at Agritechnica.
