Taichung maker of I90/I90+ observation and Monew work-class ROVs, subsea connectors and thrusters, also running ROV, vessel and offshore wind services.
DWTEK Co., Ltd. is a Taiwanese subsea technology company based at No. 22, Dong Ying Road, East District, Taichung, that designs and manufactures remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), underwater connectors and ROV components, and also provides ROV, offshore and vessel-chartering services. It trades under the name DWTEK Subsea Solution Provider at dwtekmarine.com. The company describes itself as the first Taiwanese underwater equipment manufacturer and supplier. The same address and DWTEK Co., Ltd. name are used by a long-established Taichung fastener and precision-machining business, whose corporate site at dwtek.com.tw mentions subsea equipment development alongside its screw products; the subsea business is presented separately on its own website, catalogues and LinkedIn page.
According to its company milestones, DWTEK began research and development of underwater equipment in 2008, marketed its first ROV built from in-house components in 2012, and in 2015 became the first Taiwanese manufacturer to export ROVs to Europe. A global sales channel for subsea connectors followed in 2016. In 2020 it completed its first offshore wind farm operations and maintenance project, provided RTK services to a Danish company and built up a vessel fleet; in 2021 it formed a joint venture with Acteon Group; and in 2022 it carried out deep-water salvage and inspection work and worked with a Danish energy company on a wind farm project. DWTEK became a member of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) in 2024 and also belongs to Taiwanese offshore wind and marine engineering associations.
The ROV range has four vehicles. The Investigator 90 (I90) is an observation-class open-frame ROV measuring 1,100 x 700 x 490 mm and weighing 120 kg, rated to 500 m (1,000 m optional), with six DWT6537 thrusters, 27 kg payload, 3-knot speed, a fibre-optic tether and options for a five-function manipulator, DVL, INS, USBL, cable tracking and a cage-type tether management system. The I90 carries CE certification. The I90 Plus uses larger in-house DWT8537 thrusters for 70 kgf forward thrust and adds military and defence to its listed uses. Monew is a work-class ROV of 2,100 x 1,300 x 1,200 mm and 800 kg, rated to 1,000 m with a 3,000 m option, offering 180 kg payload, 254 kgf of horizontal thrust from four DWT135D4 thrusters (500 kgf with eight), up to two five- or seven-function manipulators, a top-hat TMS and DWTEK's own launch and recovery system with snubber. A 350 kg crawler ROV rated to 300 m can drive or fly over rocks, nets and marine growth. DWTEK also sells ROV control systems, a TiDVR capture card and custom ROVs, and lists an Investigator 30 among the observation-class vehicles it has built.
Components are a second product line. DWTEK makes wet-mate and dry-mate underwater connectors (tiny, Ethernet, standard and micro circular, low-profile, high-power, PBOF and penetrator types, with connector customisation), direct-drive, magnetically coupled and shaft-drive underwater thrusters (DWT085D3, DWT135D4, DWT6532, DWT6537, DWT8537, DWT085G1), ROV latch and bullet systems, pan-tilt units, servos, cameras, LED lights, lasers, winches and a marine growth probe. The company states that it works to ISO 9001, and says its connector rating reaches 600 bar.
On the service side, DWTEK supplies ROV pilot teams trained to the IMCA R002 guideline, DNV-certified control containers, ROV rental (notably the I90 Plus), offshore turnkey solutions and vessel chartering with the DP1 offshore service vessel Sunny Bright and the crew transfer vessels P1 and P2, used for buoy deployment, cable inspection and repair, surveys and ROV support. In July 2024 its I90 Plus, fitted with a water-jet tool, removed marine growth from 80 offshore wind turbines totalling more than 600 MW in the Taiwan Strait. Distribution partners include Meiho Electronics in Japan, CPE in Italy and, from June 2026, QSTAR in Spain, and in 2024 the company signed memoranda of understanding with Affinity Test Services in Malaysia and with a partner to extend its offshore services from wind into oil and gas. DWTEK lists offshore wind, oil and gas, aquaculture, nuclear energy, civil inspection, science and research, wreck inspection and in-water hull surveys in lieu of dry-docking as its markets.
