DJI is a Chinese technology company headquartered in the Nanshan District of Shenzhen, founded in 2006 by Frank Wang (Wang Tao), who built the company's first flight-control prototypes as a student at HKUST. DJI designs and manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles, camera stabilization systems, flight controllers, propulsion components, and imaging payloads. Its product lines span consumer camera drones (Mavic, Mini, Air), professional cinema and aerial systems (Inspire, Ronin gimbals), enterprise platforms (Matrice, Mavic Enterprise, Dock), agricultural spraying drones (Agras), and a delivery drone line.
The company also produces handheld stabilizers (Osmo, RS series), action cameras, wireless microphones, and portable power stations. DJI operates the RoboMaster educational robotics program and competition. Building on heavy R&D investment, the firm has grown from a single small office in 2006 to a global workforce with offices in the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
DJI products are used in filmmaking, agriculture, conservation, search and rescue, energy infrastructure inspection, public safety and surveying, applying flying camera and stabilization technology to industrial workflows. The DJI Global Headquarters Sky City in Shenzhen was completed in 2022. As a privately owned company, DJI focuses on transforming complex aerial and imaging technology into easy-to-use devices for creative, commercial and nonprofit applications.
