Stanley Black & Decker's power-tool brand since 1924 now sells DALE, a fleet-capable autonomous drilling robot for data center jobsites.
DEWALT is a professional power-tool brand founded in 1924 by Raymond E. DeWalt, inventor of the radial-arm saw, originally based in Leola, Pennsylvania. The company was acquired by American Machine and Foundry Co. in 1949 and by Black & Decker in 1960; in 1992 Black & Decker relaunched DEWALT as its dedicated professional-grade tool line. DEWALT acquired the German woodworking-tool maker ELU in 1994, and after Black & Decker's 2004 acquisition of Porter-Cable, that brand's professional line was combined with DEWALT. DEWALT now operates as a registered trademark of Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc., part of Stanley Black & Decker's Tools & Storage business, whose operations are run out of 701 E. Joppa Road, Towson, Maryland. The brand's core catalog covers cordless and corded power tools, hand tools, outdoor power equipment, storage and organization systems, anchors and fasteners, and jobsite safety/PPE equipment, sold to professional tradespeople and industrial users. Recent product introductions include FlexVolt hybrid cordless/corded batteries (2016), ToolConnect Bluetooth-enabled tool tracking (2017), cordless lawn mowers (2018) and POWERSTACK lithium-ion battery cells (2022). In July 2026, DEWALT commercially launched DALE, described as the world's first fleet-capable downward-drilling robot for data center construction, developed in partnership with mobile-robotics company August Robotics, which specializes in automating repetitive jobsite tasks in construction and industrial settings. DALE autonomously drills the floor holes needed for server-rack supports and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) installation, reportedly working up to ten times faster than manual drilling crews with 99.97 percent accuracy verified across more than 230,000 holes, and is credited with saving a combined 190 weeks of project schedule across 26 data center construction projects. DALE includes fast-swap batteries for continuous operation and an integrated dust-extraction system, and is sold commercially through DEWALT's data-center product ecosystem alongside its PERFORM AND PROTECT tool line and ICC concrete-anchoring solutions, targeting hyperscale data-center developers and general contractors racing to shorten construction timelines. DEWALT's long-standing brand tagline is GUARANTEED TOUGH Since 1924, and the company continues to sell more than 200 hand and power tools and roughly 800 accessories across its global professional-tool range.
