Chengdu company (est. 2020) that co-developed and manufactures KODA, a 14-motor AI companion robot dog unveiled at CES 2021 with US partner KODA Inc.
Delu Dynamics Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd., known in Chinese as Delu Dongli, is a Chengdu robotics company best known as the developer and manufacturer of KODA, a consumer quadruped robot dog. Chinese venture media report that the company was founded in 2020 and grew out of the Chengdu Moyun Technology X Lab, a research group set up in 2013. In 2021 it described its work as AI perception and interaction platforms, AI ecosystem operations and intelligent robot manufacturing, and reported more than 100 patents and R&D centres in Chengdu, Silicon Valley and Tokyo.
KODA was developed with KODA Inc., a robotics company in the San Francisco Bay Area led by chief executive Emma Russell, and with the San Jose industrial design firm Whipsaw, whose team worked with Delu Dynamics designers Xuesheng Li, Dichen Gong and Yanan Wu. KODA Inc. announced a pre-launch of the first model in October 2020 and the robot was presented at CES in January 2021 as an emotionally interactive companion dog for the home. According to the launch coverage, it has 14 high-torque motors, including two in the neck and one for the tail, an 18 kg body measuring about 736 x 336 x 484 mm when standing, a top speed quoted at 1.5 m/s at launch and about 2 m/s in later design coverage, and stair-climbing ability. It carries four 3D cameras covering front, back and both sides, a 13-megapixel camera in the head, and gas, touch, foot-force, temperature and humidity sensors, with an 11-teraflop onboard processor. Its makers promoted a decentralised, blockchain-based network through which KODA units share what they learn, so that the fleet improves collectively.
The design is aimed at household use: a rounded, waterproof body that sheds rain or snow, batteries mounted low for a lower centre of gravity, two lift points for loading into a car and self-charging by lying down on a charging station. Intended roles named in award entries include capturing photos and video, acting as a mobile home surveillance camera, helping visually impaired people navigate, and serving as a companion for people who cannot keep a pet. The product won a Red Dot Product Design award in 2021 and is also listed among iF Design award winners. In April 2021 Chinese media reported nearly 1,000 pre-orders, with delivery planned for late 2021.
Public information on the company after 2022 is limited. No dedicated Delu Dynamics website was found; the KODA product site koda9.com, run by KODA Inc., still shows a 2020 copyright and gives no current availability, and no evidence of volume shipments was found. The company is therefore listed here mainly as a historical consumer quadruped developer whose current activity needs to be confirmed.
