Ede-based maker of autonomous indoor drones that fly greenhouse scouting missions without GPS, plus the Corax developer drone for GPS-denied sites.
Corvus Drones is a Dutch company based in Ede that builds autonomous drones for indoor use, with a primary focus on crop monitoring in greenhouses. The company was founded in 2017 by Frans-Peter Dechering and Gerhold ten Voorde. Because GPS signals are too weak inside greenhouses, its drones navigate by vision and collect crop data with onboard cameras and sensors.
For growers, Corvus sells its service as subscriptions rather than one-off hardware sales. Corvus Quarter and Corvus Year include drone use, a drone-in-a-box station, online guidance, reporting and a free trial period, while Corvus Project offers custom proposals. The drone, the Corvus E13, flies automatically, and growers receive a report by email within about an hour of a flight. Weekly flights can be used for germination counts, abnormality mapping, flowering and sale-readiness tracking, crop prediction, irrigation inspection, crop anomaly detection and inventory counts. The company publishes crop-specific programs for roses, lettuce, ornamentals, young plants and breeders. Customers and partners include Syngenta Flowers, Plantenkwekerij Gitzels B.V., Fischer Farms, Van den Elzen, The Valley and Inagro.
Corvus also sells Corax, a ready-to-fly indoor drone for developers and system integrators building applications in GPS-denied environments. Corax weighs 330 g, flies for more than 20 minutes and measures 268 x 305 x 63 mm. It runs a ModalAI VOXL2 Linux computer with dual-band Wi-Fi, two AR0144 cameras for visual-inertial odometry, an IMX412 12 MP colour camera and a PMD time-of-flight sensor, and uses smart batteries with cell balancing and protection circuits. Options include an automatic recharging docking station and IMX664 or Lepton thermal cameras. The Corax Open Configuration provides the standard VOXL2 environment with OpenCV, ROS 2, Docker, MAVROS, MAVSDK and PX4/ArduPilot support, while the Corvus Autonomy subscription adds visual-marker indoor localization, autonomous task execution and the MyCorvus planning and monitoring portal. Example uses include warehouse inventory inspection, greenhouse monitoring, industrial inspection and research.
In April 2022 Corvus received investment from Navus Ventures, ECG Ventures and Oost NL's participation fund; Oost NL had supported the company since 2019 through its ION+ program.
