Cognitive Pilot
Cognitive Pilot is a Moscow developer of AI vision autopilots for combines, tractors, trams and locomotives, set up in 2019 by Sber and Cognitive Technologies.
Cognitive Pilot is a Moscow-based developer of artificial-intelligence software and hardware for autonomous ground vehicles, with agriculture as its largest market and further lines in urban rail, mainline rail and automotive sensing. The company is a subsidiary of Sber and the Cognitive Technologies group and was created in 2019, when the two partners combined their autonomous-driving work. Its head office is at 3rd Rybinskaya Street 17 in Moscow, and it lists activity in Russia, the CIS, the Baltic states, Western Europe, China, South Korea, the USA, Singapore and Brazil. Olga Uskova is CEO and Anton Emelyanov is CTO.
The flagship product is Cognitive Agro Pilot, a camera-based autopilot that analyses images from a single camera with a deep neural network. The tractor version is a hydraulic autopilot rated at 2 cm movement accuracy with RTK corrections, offers four vision-based driving modes (including operation without a GNSS signal) and five 'Eyes of the Agronomist' monitoring functions. The combine version also reaches 2 cm with RTK and adds three vision-based driving modes and seven monitoring functions. Cognitive Base Agro Pilot is a satellite-navigated autopilot for any farm machine with electric or hydraulic steering. The company also sells an RTK correction service with its own base stations, the Cognitive Level Radar sensor for tillage depth and clod size, Cognitive Spread & Flow application control, Cognitive Crop Control yield assessment and Cognitive Terra Sense soil analysis. A robotic autonomous mini-tractor for feed pushing was announced with series production planned for 2025.
Agricultural deployments listed by the company include 242 combines at Rusagro, factory installation on Gomselmash GS2124 combines, and OEM fitting on Petersburg Tractor Plant (Kirovets) and Bryansk Selmash machines. In 2021 Kirovets K-7M tractors were set to ship with Cognitive Agro Pilot, described at the time as Russia's first production-line OEM contract for autonomous tractors, and more than 700 units were installed that year. In the 2020 season more than 350 autonomous combines harvested 590,000 tonnes of grain on over 130,000 hectares.
Outside agriculture, Cognitive Tram Pilot is installed on 138 trams operated by PK Transport Systems and Gorelectrotrans in Saint Petersburg, Cognitive Rail Pilot was fitted to ten Russian Railways locomotives after a prototype project with RZD, and in 2019 the company contracted with Hyundai Mobis to develop computer vision for a Level 4 autopilot. Pulkovo airport's operator plans up to 45 of its autonomous robots for baggage transport and snow clearing by 2028. Cognitive Pilot also designs its own radar sensors, joined NVIDIA Inception in 2021, and won 'The Best Global Agricultural AI Solution 2021' at the European Enterprise Awards.
