Cellula Robotics Ltd. is a privately held marine technology company founded in 2001 by Eric Jackson and headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia, with additional offices on Canada's East Coast and in the United States. The company designs and builds long-range autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and subsea robotic systems for defense, energy and scientific customers, and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for its quality management system. It describes its more than 80 employees as an international team focused on redefining subsea survey, science and security through long-duration, hydrogen-powered AUVs.
The company's flagship product line is the Guardian AUV, available in 300 m, 1,000 m and 3,000 m depth-rated configurations. The lithium-ion battery version has an endurance of about 480 hours (20 days) and a range of roughly 2,650 km, while the hydrogen fuel-cell version extends endurance to about 925 hours (38.5 days) and range to roughly 5,000 km; the vehicle is 11.7 m long, cruises at up to 8 knots, and carries modular payload bays with a combined capacity of up to 5,000 liters for mission equipment. A smaller sibling, the Envoy AUV, is offered in 1,000 m, 3,000 m and 6,000 m depth variants, with a battery endurance of up to 168 hours (930 km range) and a fuel-cell endurance of about 370 hours (2,000 km range); it carries a 500-liter flooded payload bay that can host synthetic aperture sonar, multibeam echosounders, sub-bottom profilers, cameras, lasers or magnetometers. Cellula also markets the Porter AUV, a 45-day-endurance commercial exploration vehicle, the compact Subsea Warden inspection AUV with swarm capability, and the Subsea Sentinel system, alongside custom subsea engineering and technical-support services.
Cellula's customers and partners span defense and commercial marine sectors, including the Royal Canadian Navy, BAE Systems (for defense demonstrations), Kongsberg Maritime/Discovery, Mitsubishi, the UK's National Oceanography Centre, sonar maker Norbit, and analytics firm Metron, with which it signed a strategic partnership to advance uncrewed underwater vehicle capability for long-duration operations. In 2026 the company announced that its Envoy AUV exceeded 2,000 km of submerged endurance on hydrogen fuel cells during testing, and it has also supplied Guardian AUVs to the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit's maritime program. The company remains privately owned, with no publicly disclosed external funding rounds.
