Boson Motors is a Fremont, California-based company founded in 2017 by Arun Seelam and Suri Bhupatiraju, both former Google software engineers, with a mission to build affordable semi-autonomous electric vehicles for agricultural and commercial use. The company's primary product is the LX40, an electric 4WD utility task vehicle (UTV) with a 72-mile range per charge, up to 2,000 lb tow capacity, and half-ton load capacity with hydraulic tipper. The LX40 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry and can be charged via a standard 110V NEMA 5-15 outlet or Level 2 charger in five hours.
An autonomous variant integrates GPS, LiDAR, and AI for a proprietary record-and-play navigation system suited for orchard row operations. In 2020, Boson Motors joined the Techstars Farm to Fork Accelerator, partnered with Cargill and Ecolab. The company targets farming operations, particularly orchards, and light commercial off-road applications.
