US humanoid robot startup co-founded by Ray Kurzweil and Harry Kloor, building the VR-teleoperated Beomni robot, the Beomni AI brain and the Beyond Bot.
Beyond Imagination, Inc. is a US humanoid robotics and AI company co-founded in 2018 by scientist, entrepreneur and filmmaker Dr. Harry Kloor, who serves as CEO, and the futurist and inventor Ray Kurzweil. The company describes itself as a robotics and AI platform company focused on bringing humanoid robots to market quickly by pairing a human pilot with an AI brain that keeps learning from that pilot's work, an approach it compares to releasing a product early and improving it with field data.
Its first robot platform, Beomni, is a wireless, wheeled humanoid up to about six feet tall with two robotic arms and hands. According to a 2022 profile in Built In Colorado, each arm can lift up to 35 pounds, and the first iteration was completed in January 2021 and shown publicly at the Consumer Electronics Show. Operators control Beomni remotely in real time through commercially available virtual-reality headsets and gloves, seeing what the robot sees, with haptic feedback through the gloves being added. The robots were built in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while much of the team worked remotely, and at the time the company had fewer than 20 full-time employees and had raised just under 5 million US dollars.
The software side of the platform is Beomni AI, which the company presents as a multimodal, general-purpose AI brain for humanoids and other robotic systems. It is trained initially from human teleoperation, with operators guiding the robot through tasks in VR, and is intended to progress from semi-autonomous to autonomous operation, moving from individual tasks to whole professional domains. The company has said the brain is organised into separate skill modules, which it calls lobes. Capabilities described on the Beomni site include sensing, haptic feedback, object recognition, navigation, learning by observation, planning and scheduling, multitasking and quality control.
Early applications tested by the company were in care and science. In November 2021 Beomni ran a four-day pilot at the TRU PACE elder-care centre in Lafayette, Colorado, helping with tasks such as serving meals, exercise assistance and taking temperatures. In January 2022 Beyond Imagination and GelSight announced a pilot in which Beomni 1.0 remotely operated a GelSight Mobile tactile sensor to give a remote user detailed surface measurements, with future versions expected to integrate GelSight sensors into the robot hands. The company also worked with Zero Gravity Corporation on testing scientific experiments in microgravity and named bio-manufacturing, logistics, housekeeping, restaurants and aircraft inspection as target uses.
More recently the company has shifted its emphasis to industrial work. Reports in May 2025 described a newer humanoid called Beyond Bot, aimed at factories, pharmaceutical plants and semiconductor fabs, and a software layer called Aura, presented as a universal operating system for intelligent manufacturing that coordinates humans, robots and legacy machinery. Reuters reported on 20 May 2025 that the company was in talks for a 100 million US dollar Series B round from Gauntlet Ventures as the sole investor, at a valuation of about 500 million US dollars, with the proceeds intended for deploying Beyond Bot in industrial settings; Gauntlet said it was trialling the robots. Advisors named in the coverage include former Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs. In the RobotToday humanoid landscape the company is placed in the wheeled humanoid and dual-arm segment.
