The company's origins trace to IT entrepreneur Jakob Hatteland and his technical director Ingvar Hognaland, who developed a compact robotic storage solution after a newly built warehouse reached capacity within one month. AutoStore's core technology uses compact robots operating on an aluminum grid above storage bins, retrieving goods and delivering them to operator workstations without aisles or walkways, increasing storage density by up to 400%.
The system is modular, scalable, and highly energy efficient — ten robots use as much energy as a single vacuum cleaner.
