Aurelius Systems is a US defense-technology company developing autonomous directed-energy laser systems for counter-unmanned-aircraft-system (C-UAS) defense. Its flagship platform, Archimedes, combines high-power directed-energy lasers, optical sensing, and machine-learning autonomy to detect, track, target, and neutralize aerial drone threats in seconds without a human operator. When deployed in numbers, Archimedes units form a resilient defense grid that delivers persistent protection for forces, facilities, and critical infrastructure. The system features a switchable power architecture that draws from grid, generator, or battery sources for uninterrupted operation; optical sensing paired with machine learning for real-time detection and targeting; and a compact, field-portable form factor built for rapid deployment. Archimedes is constructed largely from commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components to lower cost, accelerate production, and simplify maintenance, and it has been tested and operated in live field conditions including adverse weather.
The company positions directed energy as an answer to cheap, proliferating drone threats, engaging targets at the speed of light for the marginal cost of electricity. Aurelius closed a 10 million USD seed round in September 2025 co-led by General Catalyst and Draper Associates, with backing including Outlander VC, Decisive Point, and Squadra Ventures, and is supported by the Defense Innovation Unit and USSOCOM. It demonstrated scalable autonomous directed energy with Archimedes at the Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) 26-2 event at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, and has launched Aurelius Manufacturing to build high-power fiber laser source modules in the United States.
