Arquus is a French defense company specializing in the design, manufacture and support of armored and tactical military wheeled vehicles. Headquartered in Versailles, France, the company traces its roots to Renault Trucks Defense (created in 2002) and adopted the name Arquus in May 2018, combining the Latin words 'arma' and 'equus'. Long part of the Volvo Group, Arquus was acquired by Belgium's John Cockerill in 2024. The company is a major partner of the French armed forces, supplying logistics trucks, armored personnel carriers and reconnaissance vehicles, including platforms within the French Army's Scorpion program.
Arquus is actively developing robotics and autonomy technologies, building 'technological bricks' that allow its vehicles to be operated remotely via radio or wire guidance to remove operators from danger. Its flagship innovation, the Scarabee, is a light hybrid-electric 4x4 reconnaissance vehicle integrating advanced mobility, protection and collaborative-combat technologies, with autonomy functions intended to extend to heavier unmanned ground vehicles (UGV). Arquus's autonomy roadmap targets teleoperation and progressive automation of military mobility, positioning it within the unmanned ground vehicle and defense robotics domain. The company employs roughly 1,000 to 1,500 people across French production and support sites and provides through-life support, maintenance and modernization for its fleets.
