Apave is an international risk management group headquartered in Courbevoie, France, with nearly 160 years of operational history tracing back to 10 April 1867, when Ernest Zuber, vice-president of the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse, co-founded the "Association Alsacienne des Propriétaires d'Appareils à Vapeur" — an Alsatian association of steam engine owners formed to prevent industrial explosions and improve worker safety. Over successive industrial revolutions, the founding association expanded and merged with regional peers across France, ultimately consolidating into the unified Apave Group in 2011.
Today, Apave employs 18,500 people — including 12,000 engineers and technicians — across 60 countries, with 130 branches in France and over 170 training sites worldwide. Group revenue reached approximately €1.9 billion in 2025, with 43% generated from international operations. PAI Partners joined the Group as a growth investor in 2021.
Apave operates across five core service lines: Inspection & Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of facilities, equipment and infrastructure; Testing and Measurement including environmental sampling of air, water and soil; Training (650,000 learners per year, certified by trainer-inspectors); Certification and Accreditation of management systems, competencies and products; and Consulting & Technical Support on health, safety, environmental and operational performance. The Group serves virtually every industrial sector — energy (including nuclear and renewables), automotive, aeronautics, rail, maritime, construction, agri-food, healthcare, telecoms, and manufacturing.
Notable historical milestones include participation in the structural verification of the Eiffel Tower in the 1880s, creation of an electrical inspection department in 1897, and the launch of Apave Digital in 2022 to address cybersecurity and digital risk. Through its "Green & Social" service range, the Group supports industrial decarbonisation and environmental performance for clients transitioning to net-zero operations. The Group made 18 acquisitions in the three-year period ending 2023, expanding in North America, Asia-Pacific and Eastern Europe.
