Andromeda Robotics is an Australian robotics company that designs and deploys Abi, a humanoid companion robot for aged care and assisted living communities. Founder and CEO Grace Brown, a mechatronics engineer who had been building robots since age 15, turned the project into a business in 2022, motivated by loneliness she observed during Melbourne's COVID lockdowns. The company has offices at 224-226 Normanby Road, Southbank, Victoria, and at 665 3rd Street, San Francisco.
Abi is a wheeled humanoid with an expressive face and arms, designed with care providers to give residents one-to-one companionship and to run small group activities such as singing, dancing, games and conversation, including bubble-blowing. According to the company, Abi is fluent in 90 languages, uses AI and machine learning models to recognise faces, understand and express emotions, and remember earlier conversations, and adapts its interaction to each resident's personality, ability and language, including taking part in daily prayers. Andromeda onboards the robot with each provider, trains staff and provides ongoing phone or on-site support.
The Genesis Abi version launched with an expanded partnership with mecwacare, which became the first Australian aged care provider to deploy a humanoid robot across all of its 22 homes in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Medical & Aged Care Group is another Australian customer, and Abi has also been trialled in children's hospitals. In 2026 the company launched in the United States, with its first US placement at the Eskaton Village Carmichael memory care community in Northern California.
Andromeda raised a USD 3 million seed round, followed by a USD 23 million Series A. Investors include Forerunner Ventures, Main Sequence, Rethink Impact, Visible Ventures, Purpose Ventures, Galileo Ventures, NOAB Ventures and Startmate. The leadership team includes COO Jennifer Haroon, Chief Commercial Officer Brian McCarthy and VP Product Bryan Balin. Brown was named on Forbes Australia's inaugural 30 Under 30 list.
