Aero Systems West, Inc. (ASW) is a US designer and manufacturer of heavy-lift multirotor unmanned aircraft based in California. The company was founded in 2015, and Japan's Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. acquired it in July 2021. It now describes itself as "A Nippon Kayaku Company". ASW says it designs and builds all of its systems in California, and it markets its aircraft as US-manufactured and NDAA-compliant.
The core product line is the HLM (Heavy Lift Multirotor) series, in three configurations. The HLM Quadcopter carries a 20 kg (44 lb) payload on four 1505 mm rotors, with up to 65 minutes of flight time and a 42 kg maximum take-off weight. The HLM Hexacopter carries 30 kg (66 lb) on six rotors, flies for up to 60 minutes and has a 55 kg MTOW. The HLM Octocopter carries 35 kg (77 lb) on eight rotors, flies for up to 70 minutes and has a 76 kg MTOW. All three have a 3,600 m MSL service ceiling and a forward range of about 37-47 km. The company also offers the ROAM multirotor and an ILM quadcopter. It sells the PARASAFE CA12-01 drone parachute safety system, rated for aircraft up to 25 kg, and it is an authorised North American dealer for CubePilot autopilots. ASW works with the ArduPilot ecosystem and runs UAV training and support services.
ASW states that it contributes to ASTM standards development and takes part in FAA-related working groups. Customers and partners named by the company include the USGS, USDA, US Navy, Department of the Air Force, Naval Postgraduate School, NASA, Ohio State University, Freeport-McMoRan and Drone Delivery Systems. Published customer testimonials come from Freeport-McMoRan, San Jose State University and Drone Delivery Systems.
