EVENT OVERVIEW

RoboSoft 2027 is the 10th IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics. It runs April 5–9, 2027 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in South Brisbane, Australia. The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) sponsors the series. The general chairs are David Howard of CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, and Hugo Rodrigue of Sungkyunkwan University in Korea. Local chairs come from the University of Queensland. RoboSoft started in 2018. The 2026 edition was held in Kanazawa, Japan. For the 10th edition the organizers are preparing a special anniversary program called ROBOSOFTX; details are not yet published. The organizers forecast "over 700 registrations". The conference is in person: at least one author must present on site for a paper to stay in the proceedings.

The 2027 theme is "Soft Robots in the Wild". It focuses on moving soft robots out of the lab and into real environments. Workshops and tutorials fill the first two days. The main program has contributed papers (oral and poster), extended abstracts, journal-transfer presentations from seven IEEE RAS journals, and a soft-robotics art gallery. Plenary speakers are Mimi Koehl (UC Berkeley), Geoff Spinks (University of Wollongong) and Auke Jan Ijspeert (EPFL). Two competitions are planned: a Wild Manipulation Challenge, where robots grasp objects and classify them by firmness, and a Wild Locomotion Challenge across small multi-terrain courses. Autonomous and teleoperated entries are allowed. An exhibition area near the poster sessions is open to companies and labs through sponsorship packages.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • 10th edition of the IEEE-RAS soft robotics conference

  • Theme: "Soft Robots in the Wild"

  • Plenaries: Mimi Koehl, Geoff Spinks, Auke Jan Ijspeert

  • Wild Manipulation and Wild Locomotion competitions

  • Organizer forecasts over 700 registrations

RECOMMENDED ATTENDEES

RoboSoft suits researchers and graduate students in soft actuators, smart materials, bioinspired design, soft grippers and wearable or medical soft devices. Companies selling soft grippers, materials, sensors, 3D-printing or test equipment can reach a focused technical audience through the exhibition. Industrial buyers seeking deployed automation will find mostly research prototypes; a trade show such as Automate or Automatica is a better fit for them. Asia-Pacific researchers gain from the shorter travel to Brisbane.
