Austrian maker of injection molding machines, Cartesian robots, and auxiliary equipment for plastics processing; 10 plants in 7 countries, 2,300+ employees.
WITTMANN Group is an Austrian manufacturing conglomerate headquartered at Lichtblaustrasse 10, 1220 Vienna, Austria, founded in 1976 by Werner Wittmann. The company began when Werner Wittmann, then working for injection molding machine maker Engel, identified a need for improved water flow regulation and started manufacturing temperature control units from his garage, initially with his two sons Michael and Thomas. The company expanded into Cartesian CNC robots in 1985 and has grown into a global market leader in its sectors.
The group consists of two primary business divisions. WITTMANN manufactures robots, automation systems, material handling, temperature controllers, dryers, blenders, granulators, and chillers for the plastics processing industry. WITTMANN BATTENFELD, acquired in 2008 when WITTMANN took over the struggling Battenfeld injection molding machinery business, produces injection molding machines for a range of thermoplastic and other plasticizable materials.
The robot product line centers on Cartesian (linear-axis) CNC robots designed to integrate with injection molding machines. Representative models include: the W818, a compact 3-axis robot for smaller injection molding machines with a maximum horizontal stroke of 2,500 mm, vertical stroke of 1,200 mm, and Z-axis kick stroke of 800 mm, featuring SmartBus integration and servo-driven axes; the W821, a compact CNC robot handling up to 12 kg; and the W833, which can handle up to 15 kg gripper and part weight with a maximum vertical stroke of 1,800 mm, suited to machines up to approximately 750 tons clamping force. The robots use the R8.3 control system with WITTMANN's proprietary CNC controller.
Auxiliary equipment includes dryers for moisture-sensitive resins, gravimetric and volumetric blenders, granulators for in-house regrind, temperature controllers for mold cooling, and chillers. All product categories are designed to integrate within a single WITTMANN 4.0 digital production cell architecture for complete process monitoring.
The group operates 10 production facilities in 7 countries, maintains 36 subsidiaries, and is represented in approximately 60 countries. It employs more than 2,300 people worldwide and generates estimated annual revenue of approximately $750 million. WITTMANN Technology GmbH, the Vienna entity responsible for robots, temperature controllers, and related equipment, holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for development, manufacture, sales, and service.
