"Delivery, elevated."
Alphabet drone delivery subsidiary and first FAA-certified US carrier, with 1M+ commercial deliveries in the US, Australia, and Europe.
Wing Aviation LLC (doing business as Wing) is an autonomous drone delivery company and subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google. Wing originated in 2012 inside Google X (now X Development) as Project Wing, exploring autonomous aerial delivery of consumer goods, medicine, and food. The team completed its first real-world deliveries in 2014 in rural Queensland, Australia. In July 2018, Wing graduated from X Development to become an independent Alphabet company.
In 2019, Wing became the first US drone delivery company to receive an FAA Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate—the first-of-its-kind for drone operations—clearing the path for America's first commercial drone delivery service to residential homes. That year Wing also launched public drone delivery service in Canberra, Australia. In 2022, Wing launched in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, the first drone delivery service in a major US metro, and scaled to over 1,000 deliveries daily in Logan, Australia. By 2025, Wing and Walmart launched the largest-ever US drone delivery expansion, covering 100 Walmart stores across six major cities.
In 2026, Wing announced seven additional Walmart markets and a partnership with Papa John's for hot food delivery. Wing has now surpassed 1 million commercial deliveries to homes across the US, Australia, Finland, and Ireland. Wing's drone uses a dual-propulsion design: 12 vertical-lift motors for precision takeoff, tether-winched package lowering (without landing), and descent, combined with separate horizontal cruise motors for efficient forward flight.
The fastest recorded delivery is 2 minutes 47 seconds. The platform is highly automated—one remote pilot can legally oversee multiple simultaneous aircraft, with FAA approval enabling scaled fleet operations without proportional staffing increases. Wing has also demonstrated healthcare applications, partnering with Apian and the UK NHS to deliver lab samples in central London in 2024, cutting sample transport time from 30 to 2 minutes. Wing is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, and is led by CEO Adam Woodworth.
