W. Gessmann GmbH is a German manufacturer of industrial control technology based in Leingarten, Baden-Wuerttemberg, with a second plant in Schwaigern (Siemensstrasse 17, 74193 Schwaigern). The business has two divisions. The HMI division makes industrial control systems, joysticks, master switches, control consoles and custom control solutions. The robotics division, reached at [email protected] and headed by Steffen Kuhnle, supplies autonomous mobile robots under the GESSbot brand, collaborative robots as a certified Techman Robot partner, and complete robot cells.
The GESSbot Gb 350 is an AMR rated for payloads up to 350 kg with interchangeable tops including a shelving unit, a roller conveyor, a Z-lift system and a wagon transporter. It detects and avoids obstacles in real time, adapts to changes in its surroundings and requires no fixed infrastructure. It communicates intent to nearby workers through a sound system, a display, LED indicators and animated eyes. A GESSbot duo configuration is exhibited at the all about automation trade fairs. The robot is also offered paired with a Techman collaborative arm reaching up to 1.90 m and handling up to 35 kg, programmed from a touchscreen, for palletising and tasks in automotive, mechanical engineering, semiconductor, consumer electronics and food production.
The GESSbot was trialled and developed further with Volkswagen and is being adapted for series use at a VW logistics centre, where VW programs the units itself. Gessmann used NVIDIA Omniverse simulation to generate synthetic data and shorten commissioning.
