"Let's journey"
Zagreb robotaxi company in Rimac Group running a Pony.ai-powered service since April 2026 while building its own two-seat autonomous EV.
Verne is a Zagreb, Croatia company building an urban robotaxi service and its own purpose-built autonomous electric vehicle. It was unveiled in June 2024 at the Rimac Campus near Zagreb by three co-founders from Rimac Group: Mate Rimac, who is chairman, Marko Pejkovic, the chief executive, and Adriano Mudri, the designer of the Rimac Nevera and Verne's chief design officer. The operating company was formerly known as Project 3 Mobility, and the website states that Verne is part of Rimac Group. Its headquarters is at Buzinski krci 3b in Zagreb.
The business model combines three elements: a fully autonomous electric vehicle, a mobility service platform with a ride-hailing app that lets riders preset cabin comfort, lighting, temperature and scent, and city depots called Motherships where the fleet is inspected, cleaned, maintained and charged daily. The purpose-built vehicle is a two-seat robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals, designed on a new platform and originally announced around the Mobileye Drive autonomous system. In November 2025 the company reported that it had produced and tested all 60 planned verification prototypes. A production plant for autonomous electric vehicles is under construction on a 28,500 square metre site at VGP Park Zagreb in Lucko; the building is owned by VGP and leased long term, production is to start at several hundred vehicles, and the plant is expected to create up to 400 jobs.
Commercial service did not wait for the in-house vehicle. In March 2026 Verne, Pony.ai and Uber announced a partnership under which Pony.ai supplies the autonomous driving system, Verne owns and operates the fleet and leads European approval, and Uber provides additional booking access and an investment. On 8 April 2026 Verne opened what it describes as Europe's first commercial robotaxi service open to the public, using electric vehicles fitted with Pony.ai's seventh-generation system and initially carrying safety operators. Press reports describe the service area as about 90 square kilometres including Zagreb airport, running daily from 07:00 to 21:00. On 10 September 2026 Verne and Pony.ai began fully driverless test rides for invited passengers on a 22 km route between Verne's headquarters, a business district and Franjo Tudjman Airport, with no operator on board; by then the fleet had covered more than 200,000 autonomous kilometres. Verne says it is in permitting talks with 11 further cities in the EU, UK and Middle East.
Funding combines public and private sources. Under Croatia's National Recovery and Resilience Plan the company has received 89.7 million euros for research, development and production of new mobility vehicles and infrastructure, and it reports private investment of more than 104 million euros, including a Series A of about 100 million euros. Investors listed on its site include Kia, Abdul Latif Jameel Investment Management Company (JIMCO), TASARU Mobility Investments, Neurone, Infinum and SiteGround.
