Company Overview

Ushr Inc. is a geospatial measurement and mapping company headquartered in Livonia, Michigan, specialising in high-definition (HD) maps and software for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicle development. The company was founded in 2017 as a spin-off of the automotive mapping business unit of GeoDigital, Inc., a Canadian geospatial services company, and quickly established itself as the leading commercial supplier of survey-grade HD road maps in North America. Ushr uses precision LiDAR sensors and proprietary algorithms to map controlled-access highways, state roads, and primary roads across the United States and Canada, representing road features to within approximately four inches of geospatial accuracy. Ushr also maintains map operations in Lompoc, California, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (DMP) of Japan, which acquired the company in June 2019 for approximately $181 million.

Ushr's most prominent commercial deployment is its HD map data powering General Motors' Super Cruise system — the automotive industry's first true hands-free highway driver assistance system — which debuted in the 2018 Cadillac CT6. Ushr subsequently expanded its GM HD map coverage to more than 400,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada, enabling GM to double the road network eligible for Super Cruise operation. In January 2023, Ushr announced it was supplying its HD map data to Nissan's ProPILOT Assist 2.0 advanced driver assistance system for the 2023 Nissan Ariya all-electric crossover, working with Mitsubishi Electric to integrate the data into the High-Definition Locator Module that allows hands-off motorway driving under qualifying conditions.

As a subsidiary of Dynamic Map Platform, Ushr operates as DMP North America and benefits from its parent company's backing by major Japanese automakers including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Mazda, which collectively invested in DMP when it was established in 2016 with primary funding from the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan. The combined DMP-Ushr platform is positioned as the world's only commercially proven HD map solution deployed in production vehicles across both North American and Japanese markets. Ushr's map data enables key ADAS functions including lane-keeping assist, speed adjustment by route, lane-change assist, and intelligent cruise control, providing centimetre-level localisation accuracy that complements onboard sensor suites in production passenger vehicles.
