Universite Paul Sabatier (Toulouse III) is a public science, engineering and health university in Toulouse, France. On 1 January 2025 it adopted the name Universite de Toulouse as the core of a new grand etablissement that groups the former Paul Sabatier campus with associated schools; the institution reports more than 37,700 students, 4,300 staff, 1,530 doctoral researchers and 74 research structures.
Robotics research is carried out mainly at LAAS-CNRS (Laboratoire d'Analyse et d'Architecture des Systemes), a CNRS laboratory founded in 1968 by Jean Lagasse and affiliated with the university and four other Toulouse founding members (INSA, INPT, UT2J and UT1 Capitole). With about 730 researchers and support staff, LAAS is organized into six scientific departments and 24 research teams spanning automatic control, computer science, robotics and micro/nano systems. Its Robotics (ROB) department comprises the RIS, Gepetto and RAP teams. The laboratory runs six technology platforms, and in April 2026 launched Jorowila, an international research project on robotics and wireless technologies with New York University. Its application fields are energy, health and environment, industry of the future, space, and transport and mobility.
LAAS is located on avenue du Colonel Roche in Toulouse and is directed by Mohamed Kaaniche.
