Abuja technology group behind Omeife, a multilingual humanoid robot unveiled in 2022 as Africa's first, plus BabaSky surveillance drones.
Uniccon Group (styled UNICCON) is a Nigerian technology group headquartered on the 3rd floor of Lanre Shittu House in Mabushi, Abuja, with a European office in London. Its chairman is Chuks Ekwueme. A November 2022 ITWeb report described the company as two years old at the time. The group operates across artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, health technology, enterprise software, cybersecurity, IT services and technical training.
The group's best-known product is Omeife, a humanoid robot developed by its subsidiary Omeife Technologies. Omeife was launched in Abuja in late 2022 at an event themed "The future of Artificial Intelligence in the African Tech Ecosystem," where Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was represented by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy. The robot is presented as a female humanoid about six feet tall that uses AI and computer vision, recognizes gestures and body language, and converses in several languages, including English, French, Arabic, Kiswahili, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and Afrikaans, switching between them during a conversation. Uniccon says Omeife is backed by its own cloud infrastructure that stores behavioural data, and that components are sourced locally where possible. At launch the company announced three commercial offerings: Omeife as a service, Omeife hardware, and the Omeife humanoid robot itself. Target uses named by the company include healthcare, education and security.
Uniccon's second robotics line is BabaSky, a range of tactical unmanned aerial vehicles marketed for surveillance, logistics and precision agriculture, with AI-enabled payloads. Earlier reporting also mentions a smart drone named Ike Igwe.
Outside robotics, the group runs MySmartMedic (a telemedicine platform linking rural and urban patients), SmartMedicare health-management software, the UNICCON Work ERP system, and the UNICCON Institute of Technology, a training institution for emerging digital skills. Other listed units include a digital literacy platform, SmartAfriLabs and DICON-UNICCON.
