UCIMU is Italy's trade association for machine tool, robot and automation makers, representing 200+ members and over 70% of Italian sector output.
UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE is the Italian national trade association for manufacturers of machine tools, robots, automation systems, and ancillary products including numerical controls, cutting tools, components, and accessories. Headquartered in Cinisello Balsamo, Milan (Viale Fulvio Testi 128), UCIMU was founded in 1945 and celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2025. The association represents more than 200 member companies that collectively account for over 70% of total Italian sector revenues, making it one of the most influential bodies within the Confindustria (General Confederation of Italian Industry) system. UCIMU is also a member of CECIMO, the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries, and of Federmacchine, the Italian federation of capital goods manufacturers.
The association carries out three core functions on behalf of its members. First, it serves as the international ambassador for Made in Italy technology, promoting Italian machine tool, robot, and automation manufacturers in both traditional and emerging global markets, and publishing quarterly and annual statistical reports on sector output, exports, and orders. Second, it represents sector interests before national institutions, the European Parliament, and extra-European bodies, engaging on topics such as fiscal incentive schemes (e.g., the New Sabatini Law for capital goods investment), standardization, and export controls. Third, it provides direct company support in research and innovation, marketing and sales, promotion, communication, and training.
UCIMU organizes and co-organizes the sector's major Italian trade events, including BI-MU (the biennial international exhibition of machine tools, robots, and automation, held at fieramilano Rho — the 35th edition is scheduled for October 2026), LAMIERA (sheet metal processing), and EMO MILANO (the world's premier machine tool trade fair, next edition planned for 2027). UCIMU also maintains a publicly accessible online catalogue of all member companies and their products, available in seven languages. The association publishes the Italian Machine Tool Orders Index on a quarterly basis, a key barometer for the European manufacturing equipment market. In Q1 2026, UCIMU reported total orders up 3.1%, with foreign orders rising 28.9%.
