The Institute of Systems and Robotics at the University of Coimbra, known as ISR-UC, is a non-profit research institute founded in 1992 in Coimbra, Portugal. It forms one pole of the national Institute of Systems and Robotics, alongside a second pole at Instituto Superior Tecnico in Lisbon, and is a member institution of the ARISE Associated Laboratory for systems and robotics research.
Research at ISR-UC is organized into seven groups: human-centered mobile robotics, field robotics, medical systems and robotics, computational intelligence and control, artificial perception and cognition, visual perception, and intelligent energy systems. Work carried out within these groups has covered simultaneous localization and mapping, unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous ground vehicles, computer vision, and surgical and rehabilitation robotics. Portugal's Foundation for Science and Technology rated the institute EXCELLENT in its 2018 evaluation of national research units, the top rating in that assessment.
