"The most agile exoskeleton."
EPFL-rooted Swiss startup making the TWIICE One lower-limb exoskeleton enabling paraplegics to walk independently; Cybathlon gold medalist 2020.
TWIICE SA is a Swiss medical robotics startup based near Lausanne, Switzerland, emerging from research conducted at EPFL's Robotic Systems Laboratory (LSRO) and the REHAssist lab. The exoskeleton project began in 2015 when handcycling champion Silke Pan began collaborating with EPFL scientists to develop a wearable lower-limb powered exoskeleton for people with complete spinal cord injury (paraplegia). The team competed in the inaugural Cybathlon in Zurich in 2016, finishing 4th, and won the gold medal at the 2020 Cybathlon held in Dusseldorf.
The core product, TWIICE One, is a modular, lightweight powered lower-limb exoskeleton designed for daily independent use by paraplegics. Key design goals include self-donning (patients can put it on without assistance), comfort for prolonged wear, and compatibility with real-world obstacles such as stairs and ramps. TWIICE One received a 100k CHF FIT Tech Seed Loan from EPFL's technology transfer office.
The company is formally registered as a startup and has been selected as a Venture Leader in Medtech. With approximately 6-8 employees, TWIICE targets rehabilitation clinics, hospitals, and direct-to-user markets in Europe.
