German family-owned automation maker: clamps, grippers and welding guns plus the TStacker, TSkid, TRoll and TACT driverless transport vehicles
TUNKERS Maschinenbau GmbH is a family-owned German automation technology manufacturer. It was founded on 1 April 1962 by Josef Gerhard Tunkers with two partners in Ratingen near Duesseldorf, initially in a 16 square metre drawing office, with a stated purpose of engineering, design and manufacture of machines and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Its first orders were special hydraulic cylinders for Ruhr-region furnace construction; in-house production started two years later. The company is now run in the second generation by managing directors Josef-Gerhard, Olaf and Andre Tunkers, is registered at Amtsgericht Duesseldorf under HRB 43070, and remains headquartered in Ratingen, where 12,200 square metres of production space and 3,300 square metres of offices house around 350 staff. Group-wide headcount is about 1,100.
The catalogue is organised into nine automation modules: clamping, positioning, gripping, forming, welding, dosing, rotary indexing, conveying and transport. Products include universal, standard, electric, swivel, underbody and manual clamps, pneumatic and parallel grippers, the TRR round-tube, TOS one-screw, TCR carbon-tube and EGT euro gripper tooling systems, C-frame systems, clinch and form-and-pierce tongs, manual and robot spot welding guns, welding machines, welding cells and submerged arc welding machines, a.tronNEXT and smartDOSING adhesive dosing systems, and roller, indexing and heavy-duty rotary tables.
The transport module is the mobile robot line: the TStacker palletmover AGV, the TSkid and TRoll roller-conveyor AGVs, the TACT 1610 cart AGV and the TACT TOS platform AGV, described by the company as driverless transport systems and intralogistics robots, alongside industrial manipulators and lift-lower conveyors. The main market is serial production, in particular automotive body construction. Group companies are EXPERT-TUNKERS GmbH, SOPAP Automation and NIMAK GmbH. Separate divisions cover paper technology, pile-driving and vibration equipment, and e-mobility products.
