Company Overview

Teledyne e2v is a specialist semiconductor and imaging company headquartered in Chelmsford, Essex, United Kingdom, with major design and manufacturing centers in Grenoble, France and Seville, Spain. The company traces its origins to 1947 as the English Electric Valve Company Ltd, originally manufacturing magnetrons for defence radar under the Marconi group. Acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2017, it now operates as part of Teledyne Imaging.

Teledyne e2v is globally recognized for its CCD and CMOS image sensor families used in the world's most demanding environments. Its space imaging heritage spans nearly 3,000 years of cumulative device operation in orbit, with sensors deployed by NASA, the European Space Agency, and numerous commercial satellite programs for Earth observation, star trackers, and planetary rovers. The Ruby sensor family (EV76C660 and EV76C661) are compact 1.3-megapixel NIR-enhanced CMOS sensors with quantum efficiency above 80% and sensitivity exceeding 50% at 850 nm, suited for machine vision and outdoor low-light applications. The Sapphire family offers 1.3 MP and 2 MP global-shutter and rolling-shutter options running at 50 to 60 fps in full resolution, with on-chip features such as multi-ROI and histogram output for industrial machine vision. The Emerald family covers 36 MP to 67 MP resolutions with 2.5 micron global-shutter pixels for high-throughput large-area inspection. The Emerald Gen2 12M USV variant is upscreened for space radiation tolerance, undergoing assessments for Single Event Latch-up, Single Event Effect, and Single Event Functional Interrupt, and was showcased at Space Tech Expo Europe in November 2025.

Beyond imaging sensors, Teledyne e2v supplies high-reliability microprocessors, high-speed data converters, MRAM devices, RF power amplifiers, and klystrons for aerospace, defense, and medical linear accelerator applications. The company has received 13 Queen's Awards for Technology and employs over 1,600 people across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
